I’ve been more than a bit frustrated with the Apple Watch’s lack of fitness tracking for anything other than cardio. Namely, weight lifting. Go into a gym. Look around. You see half the people on treadmills or those weird EFX machines that basically give you no real workout. Then you see the other half of the people who are serious about fitness or losing weight, and they’re lifting heavy metal.

It’s this second, more serious, half that Apple sh*t the bed with. Namely, me. I can log a rowing workout or running or cycling but I can’t log a weight lifting workout. And they have more than million dollar R&D budgets, working with the best in the business at Nike, and still can’t come up with even a v1 for the Apple Watch to track the motion of my hands while picking things up and putting them down.

Oh, it’s too hard you say? Well a 4-person startup did it with the new Watch OS2 APIs and their SDK is already out waiting for you to put it into your own Watch app: download the FocusMotion SDK

So why haven’t you. I’d be more than glad to give you a couple bucks of my hard earned money for something that tracks sets, reps, heartbeat and intensity level over time.
